George Lucas commissioned Gary to use the characters from Star Wars in a western art painting that connected the Star Wars saga with the traditions of the West. Gary's research into his adopted Crow lore a prophesy about a wise man, painted yellow who traveled from clan to clan with words of wisdom and ways of living that were better for the people. This painting is the only commission that Gary had to take back because the buyer decided he didn't want to pay full price. - Oh Well, what can you do?

As per Mr. Lucas' request, more Star Wars" theme was hinted at in the left background where 2 arises are painting more of the story. Possibly R2D2 had shown them thru holographic projection, but that's another chapter.

Here's the story around this painting that must have been misplaced during production of the book.

Possibly the Empire sent C3PO as an emissary to a green & Moist planet where a Crow encampment welcomed him.

In the painting, He (3CPO) is being "danced-in" to honor him as a fulfillment of a prophecy. "Yellowboy" was a reference to a favored weapon, the brass WInchester model 66. The rifle you loaded one day and fired all week. Big Medicine both of these yellowboys.
